After a 7-year-old boy was hospitalized for dog bite wounds to his face and neck Monday afternoon, the boy's babysitter and the dog's owner have been cited.

According to KDVR-TV, the babysitter's story was inconsistent with what actually happened.

While the babysitter, identified as 54-year-old Patricia Castillo, claims the attack took place on the way to Farr Park, police say the attack actually occurred within a residence, and the dog was not on the loose.

A neighbor told KDVR-TV that the boy's mother discovered her son had been attacked when she came to pick him up.

"She arrived like she normally does and calmly walked into the home. Then I saw her running back screaming, and she came and got her phone and then the kid came out crying and screaming. When he turned, I saw he was bleeding on the side and he was jumping up and down," said the neighbor, identified as Petra Diaz.

Patricia Castillo was charged with false reporting to authorities.

At around 9:45 p.m. Monday, the dog and its owner, 48-year-old Robert Castillo, were found and taken into custody. Robert Castillo was issued a citation for child abuse-negligence resulting in injury, owning an aggressive animal, and failing to provide proof of rabies vaccination for the dog.

The dog will remain in quarantine for 10 days.
