Brian and I hosted the 2013 United Way Auction "Casino Royale" to benefit Promises for Children on Saturday night. The event raised thousands of dollars to help children in Weld County, but it's not to late to help.

My wife loves it when I host these events.  We usually end up taking home a couple things from the silent auction. This time was no different.  We ended up with a pair of shoes and the carved bear you see to the right. It is such a great cause, I honestly didn't mind. We had some delicious food and had a blast playing casino games. I'm am just glad we didn't use real money. Lets just say gaming is not my forte.

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?

Promises for Children is a community partnership dedicated to improving the well-being of all children in Weld County by focusing on the critical growth and brain development period from pre-birth to eight years of age to promote school readiness and lifelong success.

These are just some of the programs that are helped through Promises for Children:

  • Best Start for Babies: Promotes positive child outcomes by providing parenting supports to families during the prenatal and critically important first year of a child's life.
  • Bright Beginnings: Provides parents information on local community resources, child development, health and safety, and quality child care for their children from birth through 36 months.
  • The PASO Program: Provide support and professional development to Latino FFN providers in Weld County, promotes school readiness to Latino children, birth to 5 years of age, and helps prevent the achievement gap between Latino and non-Latino children before they enter kindergarten.
  • The Raising a Reader program:  Fosters healthy brain development, parent-child bonding and early literacy skills critical for school success by engaging parents in a routine of daily “book cuddling” with their children for birth to age five.
