Former Rockies Player Now Coaching Baseball in Northern Colorado

It must be pretty surreal for the boys of the Berthoud High School baseball team, who now have a former big leaguer/Rockies player as their assistant coach. 

Clint Barmes first made his MLB debut with the Colorado Rockies in 2003, and stayed with the team for multiple seasons, before bouncing around to several other cities, and ultimately retiring in 2016. With that much experience, it's pretty safe to say that Barmes has both the skills and cred that would make younger players eager to learn the game from him, and that's exactly what the team at Berthoud High School now gets to do.

After retiring from the pros, Barmes settled down in Mead with his family, with his kids attending school in Berthoud. Last year, when the head baseball coach at Berthoud High School reached out to Barmes about possibly coming on to help coach, the former Rockies infielder turned down the offer, saying that he wasn't quite ready yet. This year, however, Barmes decided to accept, while also still coaching his son's Little League team on the side. It has to be so inspirational for the kids on the field who now have the opportunity to learn from someone who they not only watched while growing up, but who also successfully competed at the highest level for so many years.
