Here's something to sip on: A new bill in Colorado could place a ban plastic straws. Many large corporations have already taken a pledge to rid themselves of plastic straws in coming years (like Starbucks), but why?

Well, for starters, there are millions of them in landfills, and that just sucks — pun intended. The Washington Post breaks down the problem with plastics, which is that plastics don't break down.

'Most plastics don’t decompose, or biodegrade, when we toss them. Plastics can stay in landfills for hundreds of years. And plastic in the ocean floats around as small pieces (called microplastics) that can poison animals and hurt the environment.' - Washington Post.

According to The Denver Channel, House Bill 19-1143 could help reduce the amount of pollution coming from Colorado by prohibiting 'establishments from handing out straws with drinks unless the customer specifically requests one.'

Understanably, some people need to use straws, so paper or a reusable straw are good alternatives. Read more about it here.
