I honestly had not heard of this man or this moment until I was at the Country Radio Seminar in Nashville last week but it hasn't left my mind since. This story inspired me and has left an impact that you will feel once you watch this video.

This is the story of Derek Redmond, who was expected to medal in the 92 summer games in Barcelona. During his 400 meter race he pulled his hamstring part way through the race. He was heartbroken and crushed but that did not stop him from becoming one of the most inspirational athletes I have ever seen. It was how he handled the injury that makes him a champion. He may not have won the race but he did something even more impactful...he fought on.

Derek was not going to let the injury stop him from crossing the finish line. He got up and hopped his way down the track. His father burst through the crowd and joined his son, helping him limp his way towards the finish line. He told his son he didn't have to do this but Derek told him that he had to finish. Right before the finish line, his father let him go and finish the race on his own. Derek may have come in last but 65,000 people got on their feet and cheered him on. That is what the Olympics are all about. That is what life is all about.

You don't have to come in first to be a champion. Derek proved that. The stat sheet may show him in last but that sheet doesn't tell the story. So many of us are just a number to those who write our checks but there are some amazing stories that make those numbers. We are not just a place on a standing board...we are all champions and can be. Never give up and never give up on your dream. Victory comes in many forms. Walk tall and desire to inspire...like Derek Redmond did.
