Spring is here in Colorado. While it may not feel like it with colder temperatures and snow flurries, that is just part of the charm of spring in Colorado. Some of us might have already pulled our gardening equipment out of the shed for the season and have mowed the lawn.

I've tried to put off mowing the lawn for as long as possible this spring, but when it starts to look like an overgrown mess, you just have to do something about it. While mowing the lawn in the summer months is one of my favorite things to do, I will admit that I am a bit of a procrastinator and put things off until I can no longer ignore them.

Mowing Your Lawn in Colorado

Admitting that I am a procrastinator is one thing. Being someone who is not a morning person whatsoever is another. There is nothing better than sleeping in on a weekend morning in spring with the windows open in Northern Colorado. However, that can quickly be ruined by the sound of a lawnmower bright and early on a Sunday morning. Thankfully, the majority of my neighbors don't mow at 7 a.m. Is it because they are not allowed to do so, or is it that it is not legal?

When can you legally mow your lawn in Colorado?

Believe it or not, there are legal hours that you can mow your lawn in the state of Colorado. While it is not directly listed as a specific action, there are noise ordinances in the state about quiet hours. According to nonoise.org, Colorado's noise statute in residential areas limits noise of 50 decibels or lower between the hours of 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

A quick search on Google says that the average gas-powered lawn mower produces a sound level of 95 decibels. Electric mowers run at approximately 75 decibels. So if you were thinking about using your electric mower to mow in the early morning hours or possibly late at night, you would still be over the decibel limit for mowing during the quiet hours in the state of Colorado.

The best time to mow your lawn in Colorado

I like to mow in the evening during the summer when the temperatures cool. No one really enjoys mowing the lawn when it is 90 degrees out. Some lawn experts say that mowing your lawn in the morning hours is the best. However, I am not a morning person, so you won't catch me doing that any time soon.
