Tailgate The Safety Way - Crashtest Dummies

I always try to make it out to the Tailgate the Safety Way safety fair every year.  The 11th annual event is tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Greeley West High School.

Tailgate the Safety Way is an event started by Drive Smart Weld County that  allows community members to participate in a variety of hands-on safety experiences that will help them make wiser choices when driving - or riding in a motor vehicle. Drivers and soon-to-be drivers can explore and learn from visiting over 25 booths, activities, demonstrations, and information tables.  One year I even got to be one of the "celebrity drivers" who put on a pair of fatal vision goggles and swerved around a course to show the dangers of drunk driving.

By visiting each station, kids can earn a chance to win an iPod, or iTunes card. Attendees will enjoy FREE food and many giveaways.

You can try on first responder gear, climb into an ambulance or the driver’s seat of an 18-wheeler, visit with family members who have lost a loved one in a crash, talk to professionals about career opportunities, witness demonstrations like air bag deployment, have your child’s car seat checked to safety see if it is properly installed, gather valuable resource materials, and learn some great safety tips - all while having FUN!
