Not only will Colorado be getting lots of snow this weekend, a Snow Moon will also be lighting up the dark night sky too.

According to the Farmers' Almanac, the name "Snow Moon" originated from northeastern Native American tribes, who referred to the second full moon of winter as the Snow Moon or the Storm Moon because of February’s typical, heavy snow. Ironically, it coincides with reports of expected snowfall beginning on Friday.

According to Denver7, the Snow Moon will appear at its fullest around 12:33 a.m. on Sunday, February 9.

The Snow Moon is also the first supermoon of 2020.  A supermoon is a full moon that happens when the moon is at the closest point to earth in its orbit, so it tends to look especially large while rising and setting.
