From mountains and meadows to stadiums and cityscapes, we have it all here in Colorado, and aside from exploring our state's natural beauty, there are plenty of man-made structures worth checking out.

Whether it's ancient cliff dwellings, historic mining cabins, castles, or deluxe high-rises Colorado has all kinds of unique architecture. Here are five interesting buildings you have to see in the Centennial State.

1.) The Spaceship House

This peculiar private residence known as the Spaceship House or The Sculptured House, can be seen while driving on I-70. The Genesee home has iconic architecture, and has been featured on MTV, HGTV, CBS, Discovery, and in Forbes Magazine. You can read more about its history and the building process here.

2.) Petrified Wood Gas Station

According to Roadside America, this structure in Lamar, Colorado lays claim as being the oldest building on the planet, being that the pieces of petrified wood that make up the walls and floor are over 175 million years old. In 1962, the service station was converted into a tire center, but you can still stop by and snap a photo at this unique establishment.

3.) Cano's Castle

Located in Antonito, Cano's Castle is definitely a sight to be seen. Made from items such as scrap metal, hubcaps, flattened beer cans, and other salvaged materials, this quirky building was named after the man who created it. However Cano claims that God actually built the castle and Jesus now resides in it.

4.) UFO Watchtower

The UFO Watchtower in the San Luis Valley started as a joke, but is now said to be one of the best spots for spotting aliens and other unearthly phenomena. The saucer dome has a ten-foot-high viewing platform, and other UFO-themed items among the property. Stop inside for a souvenir to document your strange stop.

5.) The Strater Hotel

Durango's historic Strater Hotel takes visitors straight back to the 1800s wild west. The huge hotel also includes a museum and guests love to belly up to the bar at the attached Diamond Belle Saloon. Read more about this majestic establishment here.
