At 90 years young, Ernie Andrus, a World War ii Veteran, is doing the unthinkable. He is jogging Coast to Coast to raise money for his love; the LST 325.

Ernie Andrus is jogging to raise awareness and money to send a ship back to Normandy. Not just any ship though, but a ship like the one he was assigned to during World War II; the USS LST 124.

The LST was a ship that hauled tanks and heavy artillery to the fronts during World War II. There were just over a 1000 of them built and even Winston Churchill and General Dwight D. Eisenhower called the LST "...the ship that won the war."

Here is where Ernie Andrus comes into the game. There is only one LST still floating and it's in Evansville, Indiana; I have actually seen the ship when I worked for WKDQ in Evansville. His idea is to raise the money needed to take the LST 325 back to Normandy and rest her on the beach she was at 75 years ago.

You can read his statement below and if you'd like to make a donation, you can find that information below as well and we hope you'll share his wonderful journey with all your Navy family.

My name is Ernie Andrus and I plan to run coast to coast in 2 to 4 years. I turned 90 in August, 2013. I plan on starting by touching the Pacific Ocean near San Diego, CA, on October 7th, 2013 and will touch the Atlantic Ocean near Brunswick, GA two to four years later. This feat is being undertaken to raise money for the LST 325 Ship Memorial, Inc. I was one of the crew that brought the LST 325 back from the Isle of Crete, Greece to the U.S. in 2000-2001 as aired on the History Channel as "The Return of LST 325." One thousand Fifty-One LST's were built during World War II. The 325 is the only one left that has been restored and is still operational. I plan on running 3 days a week averaging between 1/2 marathon and a marathon a week. I will start on Monday, October 7 and run again on Thursday and Saturday. I welcome any runners who would like to join me on any leg of my journey. Any runners wishing to make a tax deductible donation, please make checks payable to the USS LST Ship Memorial. Anyone wishing to sponsor me please make checks payable to "Coast to Coast Runs". Checks can be dropped off on the day of the run or mailed to 304 Brooklawn Dr., Banning, CA 92220.
