If you have had to deal with military suicide, or just want to help end it, make plans for the 3rd annual A Soldiers Silent Cry 5k on Sunday, May 24 in Fort Collins.

The event this year for A Soldiers Silent Cry, will again be held at Spring Canyon Park in Fort Collins with registration starting at 11:00 a.m. The annual fundraiser is to raise money for T.A.P.S. and to raise awareness to the continued epidemic of military suicides and how to help ease or eliminate those numbers all-together.

More than 6,500 veteran suicides are committed every year-more than the total number of soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq combined since those wars began. More Americans take their own lives than die in car crashes. About 1,000 veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan war era are diagnosed each week with PTSD and more than 800 with depression, according to the VA statistics. At least 20% of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans have PTSD; 50% of which do not seek treatment. If we want to support our troops, those trained to fight in our name deserve to know that we, as a nation, will fight for them.

Let's get hundreds out to support this local effort and walk to honor, support and raise awareness! The cost is only $25 which includes a T-shirt but there is a limited supply. If you just want do the 5K (with not shirt) the cost is only $15. The walk starts around 11:30 a.m. and there will also be a BBQ after the event.

If you want to help sponsor the event, the cost is $75 and your logo will go on the shirt. If you want to sponsor, donate or have questions, please contact Liz at 970-305-6788 or Monica at 970-581-7905.

95% of proceeds will be donated to TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) to help survivors and caregivers.
