Additional COVID-19 Outbreaks Reported Within CSU Greek Life

The coronavirus cases within sorority and fraternity houses at Colorado State University continue to rise.

According to the Coloradoan, three other fraternities at CSU were reported to be having COVID-19 outbreaks as of Wednesday (Sept. 30). New coronavirus outbreaks have been linked to the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity with four cases; Both the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and the Sigma Pi fraternity have two new cases.

Last week, CSU officials reported outbreaks at the Gamma Phi Beta sorority, which had five cases, and the Chi Omega sorority, which had three cases. There were no new cases from this week's report associated with those outbreaks.

There are now a total of 33 reported COVID-19 cases among CSU greek life members since the start of fall semester (Aug. 24).

A CSU spokeswoman told the Coloradoan that all sorority and fraternity houses associated with the university are located off campus, and those with active outbreaks have been quarantined.

There have been 223 positive COVID-19 cases reported among CSU students by the university, and 7 positive cases among CSU faculty & staff members since students started moving into their residence halls on August 17. Out of these cases, 17 cases are linked to a COIVD-19 outbreak within the CSU Greek life community.

The Kappa Sigma fraternity was identified as having an outbreak both in July - in which seven lab-confirmed tests came back positive among Kappa Sigma house residents, and in September; The outbreak from earlier last month included 13 lab-confirmed cases and four probable causes within the Kappa Sigma fraternity.
