Will the nation's next American Idol come from Colorado?

Audition Process Is Underway

The next season of American Idol on ABC  is months away, but the audition process is already underway across the country. Again this year, potential superstars -and people who think they are potential superstars - have the chance to submit an audition video online in hopes of being selected to sing in front of the panel of celebrity judges. But, another way to audition is during the "Idol Across America" open virtual auditions via zoom.

When Can Coloradans Audition?

Colorado's date for virtual auditions is Tuesday, August 31 and slots are beginning to fill up. Registration for the virtual auditions in Colorado is happening online right now. Keep in mind that your registration does not guarantee you will have the chance to audition, though American Idol says producers will do their best to audition everyone who has registered.

No In-Person Auditions This Year

There will be no in-person auditions for American Idol this year due to COVID-19 uncertainties, so this is what the audition process looks like. Singers who participate in the virtual auditions will be singing for American Idol producers, not the celebrity judges. To be eligible to participate you have to be born between June 2, 1992, and September 15, 2006. That counts me out - just barely.

What Equipment Do You Need to Audition?

Auditions are being held in all 50 states, and in some cases, all of the auditions slots are already filled up, but there is still availability in Colorado. to audition you just need a device capable of receiving an internet connection. If you plan to audition on your computer,  you don't need to download the Zoom app, however, if you are using your phone or tablet you'll need to get the app. If you have other questions, they are probably answered here.

This Is Not A Talent Show

This is the 20th season of American Idol and I have to admit I've watched every season except the first one. It's an entertaining show, but one thing I've learned is the winner isn't necessarily the one who is the best singer or the most talented. I've seen plenty of amazing singers exit the competition early in the process. I've also seen a lot of singers who aren't that pleasant to listen to go far in the competition. That should be an encouragement to Idol hopefuls who might not have the greatest voice in the world but have performance potential.

Out of thousands of auditions, a lucky few will be chosen to showcase their talent in front of the celebrity judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Katy Perry. For many, just getting that opportunity will be the thrill of a lifetime.

If you think you've got what it takes to be the next American Idol, get your audition spot reserved, and make us proud. We'll be cheering you on.
