At What Age Should a Child Get Their First Cell Phone? [POLL]

We have been having the discussion at home about when is the right time to get a child their own phone. I like the idea of being able to get a hold of kids whenever you feel you need to but when are they responsible enough to own their own?

There are times I would love to call my youngest grandson when he is gone and see what is going on but he can't even keep a jacket or lunchbox without losing it so he is no where near ready for one. I am thinking he might have to wait until he is nearly in his teens. I am thinking around 12 at the earliest for him. How about you? Each family has different communication needs so it will vary from family to family but I want to know your opinion. Vote here.
