Baby Delivered Along I-25
A baby was born along I-25 in Colorado Springs on Friday - just one exit away from the hospital.
"About halfway down the trip, I said we're not going to make it. These contractions are too close together, they're too strong," said Amanda Evanson, the baby's mother.
Marc and Amanda Evanson were traveling from their home in Canon City to Memorial North Hospital in Colorado Springs when the mother went into labor. They were just 10 minutes and one exit away from the hospital when Marc had to pull off at exit 150 on North Academy Boulevard.
Though they hadn't quite made it to the hospital, help seemed to, almost miraculously, arrive at the perfect time.
Marc Evanson was on the phone with 911 when Sgt. Keith Wrede pulled over to help, followed by a woman who happened to be a doctor.
"She was trying to reassure me saying it's OK, you're going to have a baby and she tried to talk me through it," Amanda Evanson said.
Katriana Evanson delivered safely on the side of the road, 5 days before her due date, weighing 7lbs, 4oz and 19 1/2 inches long. Doctors say she is healthy and the family was able to take her home Sunday.
