Sometimes the difference between an A and a failing grade is as simple as the right tools. School supplies can be a huge burden this time of year. Whether you have one or four children starting school next month the costs can be overwhelming: her are my idea's on saving money and filling your kiddos backpacks. Some of the most inexpensive places to pick up paper, pens, pencils, rulers etc are the Dollar Tree and Walmart. Supermarkets are also a great place to find inexpensive school supplies. This week at King Soopers, a 12 pack of pencils are on sale for .50 cents and composition books are .50 cents each.

I have nearly raised four children and when they were all in school at the same time, I can remember feeling overwhelmed. I would sit with a notepad and work the budget a million times to find the money for school supplies. Often times I found just enough for the basics and other times I couldn't squeeze the budget enough for a .37 cent pack of wide-ruled paper.

I recently spoke with Wes Fothergill, Executive Director of the Thompson Education Foundation in Loveland. Mr. Fothergill told me about their current help kids succeed school supply drive. He told me how we can all help the drive and how we can get supplies for our kids.

In the end kids may or may not be excited about school starting in less than a month, but they do like their school supplies. At least that's the feeling I got from Brooke McCarter.

Bottom line many area stores this time of year are offering discounted prices on school supplies. Discount stores such as Walmart and the Dollar Tree are great sources for everyday low prices. Remember if its not a Dollar Tree store not everything is always a dollar, be careful when loading your cart. If the need is too strong this year because of lay-offs or just tough times, please turn to one of these organizations for assistance. If you are doing better than expected this year, please pick up a couple of extra items and pass them along to one of these great organizations.
