Alright barrel heads, this is something you are going to want to read! Barrel aged beer is one of my all time favorite drinks. In fact, I have over 30 barrel aged beers sitting in my "beer closet" as I type this out... Simply put, if it's a barrel aged beer, I love it and Oskar Blues is about to have more of it!

I was extremely excited to hear that Longmont based Oskar Blues has expanded their barrel aging program. Have you ever had a barrel aged Ten FIDY? It's good, really good! However, the problem with having a small barrel aging program is that you might not get to try that barrel aged goodness since the bottles, or cans, in Oskar Blues case are somewhat far and few between.

As you can see from one of their Facebook posts, there are quite a few of those oak barrels waiting to or have already been filled with some Oskar Blue Goodness

Oskar Blues barrel count sits at over 730 barrels currently. Most of which house the Imperial Stout, Ten FIDY. After the stout's 8 month hibernation in the barrel, it will be available in 19.2 oz. cans this coming fall. Another barrel aged beer coming out of Oskar Blues in a small batch release is the Barrel Aged Gubna, an imperial rye IPA aged in tequila barrels. Sounds delightful, doesn't it?

One of their beers I am hoping they decide to throw in a bourbon oak barrel is their Death By Coconut Porter...

So Oskar Blues, if you are reading this... Please PRETTY please with a barrel aged coconut porter on top please age Death By Coconut! Additionally, according to the Westword, a single post on Oskar Blues Facebook page about the barrel aged Ten Fidy resulted in people lining up at dawn this past winter just to get a taste of the sweet sweet nectar. I cannot wait to get my hands some of the Ten FIDY this fall and other barrel aged concoctions that are in the works from Oskar Blues!
