Being a single mom is challenging, especially when owning a home. As responsibilities and financial struggles pile up, home repair and upkeep are often put on the backburner.

Be the Gift aims to ease this burden for Northern Colorado's single moms, widows, and their children. Thanks to a dedicated staff and a team of volunteers, the local non-profit is able to provide home repair assistance to those in need.

"At Be the Gift, we just see these single moms as heroes. We as an organization, as well as our volunteers, are so blessed to be able to go into their homes and help them," said Marilyn Johnson, Executive Director of Be the Gift, in our "Tuned In to NoCo" interview. "Just to change a life, to help someone who is so overwhelmed, to make them smile — it's really a pleasure and a privilege."

Single moms and widows can request assistance from Be the Gift on their website here. You can also nominate a single mom that you think could use some help.

On top of home repair assistance, the organization also provides scholarships to single moms to ensure that they are living in a safe, healthy environment. While recipients do not need to own a home, they are asked to volunteer with Be the Gift — an action that helps the non-profit further its service.

"It really is just an honor to be able to serve these single moms and widows that come into our lives," said Jen Schaefer, supervisor of Community Relations at Be the Gift. "Really the blessing is kind of all the way around. They're blessed and we are too."

You can help the organization continue its mission by donating or signing up to volunteer here.
