I just returned from one of the best vacations I have ever had. My wife Kyla and I went to San Francisco for our 25th anniversary and had a great time. I really needed a getaway, life gets hectic and I was feeling overwhelmed, now after a nice week off I am just whelmed. You may know from my history that I do not travel well, it seems like if something is going to go wrong, it goes wrong for me. The flight going out was delayed twice which seems to be par for the course for me, so I was already a little testy, then there was one, count them..ONE, person on the entire plane who had their seat reclined and where do you think he was sitting? If you guessed in front of me you move on to the bonus round. Why would anyone want their head closer to my lap? I sure wasn’t going to read him a story. We hit such bad turbulence that the flight attendant actually fell on the floor and stayed there until it was done shaking, it took me 3 and half hours to quit jiggling myself. I was like a huge jell-o mold.

When we finally arrived and got into the city I loved it. What a unique city, with the streets that as so steep that Bode Miller would think twice about going down them, and interesting people everywhere, it is a place I will go back to. One of my favorite things is visiting with people like the cabbies, every cab ride was an adventure, the movie Bullit with Steve McQueen was filmed there, which has one of the greatest car chase scenes in history, I got the feeling every cabbie saw the movie and thought they could do it better. Holy cow was that an adventure. We went on a cruise under the golden gate bridge, did you know that they continuously paint the bridge? They start at one end and paint to the other end and then work their way back again and never stop. We then cruised around Alcatraz, what a dark looking place that is, didn’t see a Starbucks anywhere near it. Everyone raves about the food there but I didn’t see much difference between their McDonalds and ours, maybe the filet o fish was a touch more fresh but not much, maybe next time I will venture out of the hotel a bit more.

My favorite meal was at Lori’s Diner where I dined with a huge cow and a giant Pepsi bottle. What a cool place. I didn’t leave my heart in San Francisco but I did leave a lot of smiles that I may have to go back and add to.
