As of Tuesday morning, the Cameron Peak Fire has reach 89 percent containment. For reference, we were at about 64 percent containment before a late October snowfall dumped about a foot of snow on the fire.

The Cameron Peak Fire has now burned over 208,913 acres.

Fire officials took to the Cameron Peak Fire Facebook page with warnings about hazard areas where the fire has burned.

Andy Lyon, a spokesman for the Pacific Northwest Team 2, stated that even when a tree looks normal, the root system could be compromised and unstable due to fire damage. We should expect trees to fall pretty regularly for the next year or so.

Fire crews are now weighing the risks of whether or not to put out smoking "stump holes," so if you see smoke, don't be alarmed. Fire officials may have decided that it's safer to let some smoldering areas fizzle out on their own.

Strong wind is expected on Tuesday evening and later this week.

Fire officials acknowledged that the wind can still dry out and spread the fire. However, there are firefighters in the area so the wind may actually help them to determine which areas need the most work.
