A Judicial District Attorney from the eastern plains has been indited by a grand jury after ingesting hydrocodone pills prescribed to employees she worked with.

According to the Denver Post, Brittny Lewton would pressure fellow employees for their prescription drugs, then ingest them.

The investigation began on July 12 after an unnamed employee in the prosecutor’s office witnessed an exchange between Lewton and a new employee. The unnamed employee took the complaint to the Colorado District Attorney investigator who referred the case to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

When Lewton found that her actions were being looked into, she threatened to fire an employee and put him on suspension.

Hydrocodone is a controlled substance that is classified the same as methamphetamine and cocaine in Colorado law.

In 2012 Lewton was elected the district attorney for the 13th Judicial District, which includes Kit Carson, Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Wasghinton and Yuma counties.
