Are you a trained substitute teacher? You are needed in Colorado right now.

Here's the gist of Colorado's teacher shortage. When a teacher gets sick, they have to err on the side of caution and not go to school right? Makes sense as we are in the midst of a pandemic.

However, that means more substitutes than ever are needed. Unfortunately, most subs are retired teachers which means they are likely in the at-risk category for a lower immune system or pre-existing condition which is keeping them away from the classroom environment. So the substitute pool is very tiny at the moment.

Being a sub is even more sketchy right now because you are not staying contained with your one group of kids, as is the nature of a substitute, you have to bounce around between classrooms and even schools.

According to the Colorado Sun, Alamosa School District said they are one quarantined classroom away from leaving other classes without their teacher.

Denver Public Schools has welcomed 'guest teachers' into the classroom, assigning at least one guest teacher to each school in the district, as reported by the Colorado Sun.

The Colorado Department of Education is developing a substitute recruitment resource to help bring more subs into the classroom.
