This story is absolutely heartbreaking as a father and son both lost their life yesterday as they were just trying to spend some time together on Father's Day. The tragedy took place in Pueblo, Colorado and the Coroner has already identified the victims as 46-year-old Ricardo Valencia Sanchez and 16-year-old Jose Luis Valencia both of Aurora, Colorado.

The father and son were rafting on Sunday afternoon when their raft accidentally flipped and then became trapped in a river hydraulic according to KETK. Fire crews arrived around 1:30 p.m.

When they surfaced, the pair were tangled in the raft, after emergency crews pulled them to shore it was apparent that they were too late and they had both passed away due to the accident. The Pueblo Fire Department did attempt resuscitation efforts but they were unsuccessful.

As if this story isn't heartbreaking enough, law enforcement working the case have told the media that both victims were wearing life jackets in an attempt to be safe on the water. Unfortunately, accidents happen and this one is extremely sad as these two were just enjoying Father's Day together.

As we mentioned last week there were six deaths on Colorado waters in just one week, but in all of those instances, no life jackets were being used.

Please be as careful as possible when recreating on the water. As you can tell from this accident even when you are wearing life jackets things can go wrong. We are thinking about the family involved in this tragedy today and truly appreciate the fire crew for their life-saving attempts made yesterday.
