With the stress of social distancing leading to drug use relapses or overdoses, the personal-finance website WalletHub released its report on the States with the Biggest Drug Problems in 2020 to highlight the areas that stand to be most affected.

This study compares all 50 states and the District of Columbia in terms of multiple factors that contribute to any one state's drug usage, including arrest and overdose rates to opioid prescriptions and employee drug testing laws. You can find some highlights below of the report below:

Drug Abuse & Prevention in Colorado (1=Biggest Problem; 25=Avg.):

  • 6th – Share of Teenagers Who Used Illicit Drugs in the Past Month
  • 3rd – Share of Adults Who Used Illicit Drugs in the Past Month
  • 2nd – Share of Adults Who Needed but Didn’t Receive Treatment for Illicit Drug Use in the Past Year (Tied with Vermont)
  • 17th – Substance Abuse Treatment Facilities per 100,000 People (12 Years and Older) Using Illicit Drugs
  • 1st – Drug Arrests on College Campuses per 1,000 Students
