Colorado Rabies Cases On The Rise [VIDEO]

Colorado is seeing an increase in rabies cases.  Here are some tips to keep your furry friends safe.

As reported by KDVR, Colorado Public Health Officials have been warning people to get pets vaccinated and be careful near wildlife.  There has been an increase in aninals testing positive for rabies. Seven animals in Boulder County and 40 statewide have already tested positive so far this year.

To reduce the risk of exposure to rabies here are some tips:

• Do not handle unfamiliar animals, wild or domestic, even if they appear friendly. Contact animal control to collect the animal.
• Thoroughly wash any wound caused by an animal with soap and water, and seek medical attention immediately.
• Keep vaccinations current for all dogs, cats, ferrets, and horses.
• Supervise pets.
• Teach children to leave wildlife alone.
• Do not leave pet food or livestock feed in areas that are accessible to wildlife.
