COVID-19 By The Numbers In Weld County

Weld County is one of several counties in Colorado that has recently shifted to 'Level Red' restrictions due to alarming COVID-19 surges across the state.

In an effort to guide Colorado through the ongoing changes of this pandemic, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) created a COVID-19 dial with designated levels as a tool to balance, contain, and keep track of the novel coronavirus.

The Greeley Tribune reported that on Nov. 3, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment notified the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment, via a letter signed by CDPHE director Jill Hunsaker Ryan, that the county’s incidence rate had exceeded Level Yellow criteria on the state's COVID-19 dial.

At that time, about 457 per 100,000 people were infectious with COVID-19 in the county, and the positivity rate in the county stood at 10.84%.

On Nov. 19, about two weeks following the previous stats, Weld County reported that about 1,063 per 100,000 people were infectious with COVID-19, and the positivity rate in the county surged to 16.6%.

The letter from Hunsaker Ryan to the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment noted that the county’s incidence rate had been above the Level Red threshold for 19 days, and that the testing site in Weld County was reporting a percent positivity of over 20% in the past several days, “indicating that the incidence trend will continue to increase.”

As per the latest data from the Weld County Department of Public Health website, here's where COVID-19 stats currently stand in Weld County:

• Cumulative total of COVID-19 cases in Weld County since March: 12,397
• Two-Week Cumulative Incidence Rate per 100,000 residents: 1271.8
• Two-Week Positivity Rate: 15.87%
• Current COVID-19 hospitalizations in Weld County: 299
• Total COVID-19 related deaths since March: 123
• Total COVID-19 related deaths since Nov. 1: 20

Despite the county's restriction level change from Level Yellow to Level Red, the Weld County Board of Commissioners and Weld County Sheriff Steve Reams have said they will not enforce Governor Polis' restrictions.
