A 25-year-old CSU graduate died climbing a 14er near Aspen over the weekend. Jake Lord of Parker fell about 300 feet Saturday morning while hiking with a friend on the backside of Capitol Peak’s summit. CPR efforts from friends were unsuccessful. Emergency responders arriving by Flight For Life helicopter two hours later pronounced him dead at the scene.

Lord graduated from Colorado State University with a background in computer hardware and worked as a software engineer for medical technology firm Medtronic. He was believed to be an experienced climber.

It is the fourth death this year on one of Colorado’s 14ers, with the others on Maroon Bells, Mount Princeton and Longs Peak.
