This morning at about 8:30 a.m., Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Larimer County Natural Resources rangers were dispatched to a residence overlooking Horsetooth Reservoir for a welfare check. Before 9 a.m., deputies were able to enter the residence through an open door but were not able to locate the resident. At about 10:09 a.m. deputies spotted what appeared to be an adult male near the residence but at the base of a cliff about 75 feet below them.

With the adult male’s status unknown, deputies requested additional assistance from the Poudre Fire Authority for a high-angle rescue. When deputies were able to reach the male, he was deceased. The rescue operation was cancelled and Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services personnel responded to assist with recovering the male’s body. The recovery will involve clearing brush and trees from Horsetooth Reservoir to allow access, and then the deceased will be transported by boat to the nearest dock where the Coroner’s Office will take custody of the remains.

This Sheriff's Office is investigating this as an unattended death. If you have any information regarding the incident they'd like you to call 970-416-1985
