Fort Collins has had an open container law for as long as I've lived here, which is why it was a shock to hear that Denver recently decided to ban alcohol in parks until July 23...

...because, what? This was a thing?

According to Denverite.com, the open container free-for-all was a thing, but now all booze is banned and public parks will have much stricter guidelines for alcoholic enjoyment going forward. Thanks to the article, here is what the city is no longer allowing from April 24 to July 23 in order to slow the spread of coronavirus:

  • Alcohol (including beer, wine and champagne) is not allowed
  • If you are sick, do not visit the parks
  • Separate at least 6 feet from others at all times
  • Do not gather or travel in groups
  • Group sports and activities are prohibited
  • Shared use of equipment is not allowed (i.e.: frisbees, footballs, etc.)
  • Bring your own hand sanitizer/washing supplies
  • Leash your dog to prevent accidental cross-contamination with others
  • Park hours are 5:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
