Many peoples' New Year's resolution includes maintaining a healthy and physically fit lifestyle going into 2022. Fortunately for Coloradans, it's pretty easy to do that with all that our state has to offer when it comes to both indoor and outdoor recreational opportunities.

The personal-finance website Wallethub even ranked Denver as being one of the top cities in the country for having an active lifestyle. Colorado's capital landed at No. 9 on the list. To compile their rankings, researchers compared the 100 biggest U.S. cities based on 34 key indicators of an active lifestyle. Some of these categories included average monthly fitness club fees, bike and walk scores for each city, and fitness Centers with virtual classes per capita.

In addition to having plenty of gyms, indoor climbing facilities, and fitness/yoga studios, Denverites can always take advantage of the urban playground found within the city by climbing stairs or street biking outside.

On a larger scale, residents throughout Colorado don't have to travel far to get to the mountains, which lend themselves to having an active lifestyle during all months of the year. From snowboarding and skiing to biking and hiking, the opportunities for physical exercise in the mountains are endless. Besides that, there are numerous lakes and reservoirs in Denver as well as in its surrounding cities, giving residents the chance to wet their whistle in an array of water sports. When it comes to working out, Coloradans have lots to choose from.

Several other Colorado cities landed on Wallethub's top 100 list, including Colorado Springs at No. 48 and Aurora coming in at No. 51.
