A woman has been charged with child endangerment after driving while intoxicated with an unrestrained infant in the car.

Lacie L. Peterson, 29, was found unresponsive behind the wheel of her vehicle at a gas station in Springfield, Missouri. Deputies say they received a report from a local resident about possible intoxicated driver they witnessed "fall asleep, slumping over the steering wheel at a stop light."

Peterson's 7-month-old son was found sitting unrestrained in an unsecured car seat in the vehicle. She has been charged with first-degree child endangerment, a C felony with a maximum sentence of 7 years in prison.

The boy was released to a family member, according to deputies.
