The Fallen Officers Memorial Ceremony scheduled for today has been canceled today due to the weather. The Weld County Sheriff’s Office plans to host another event when the weather is a more agreeable, and we look forward to an opportunity to thank Weld County Community for its ongoing support.

On Thursday, May 18th a Weld County Fallen Officers Memorial Ceremony will be held at 6:30 pm at Bittersweet Park in Greeley. This ceremony happens every year during National Police Officers Week.

The Greeley Police Department Honor Guard will be doing a ceremonial lowering of the flags, and the Weld County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard will be doing a 21 gun salute and taps. Guest speakers include: Sheriff Steve Reams, Chief Jerry Garner and District Attorney Michael Rourke. Command staff from different agencies in Weld County will read of all the names of law enforcement personnel who died in the line of duty in 2016. After the ceremony there will be food and refreshments.

In 2016 143 brave men and women lost their lives in the performance of their duties. Three were from the state of Colorado:

  • Trooper Cody James Donahue – Colorado State Patrol
  • Corporal Nathaniel Alan Carrigan – Park County Sheriff’s Office
  • Deputy Sheriff Derek Mace Geer – Mesa County Sheriff’s Office

On Monday of this week, the Weld County Commissioners presented the Sheriff's Office with a proclamation declaring the week of May 14-20 to be National Weld County Police Officers Week.
