This summer when you gather with friends and family around that fire pit, the City of Fort Collins wants you to shut it down at 10 p.m.

On the bright side, this will most likely only apply to wood burning fire pits. The Coloradoan has the story on how the Fort Collins City Council gave unanimous initial approval for a new ordinance regarding wood fires within neighborhoods. IE: fire pits.

The new ordinance states that a wood burning fire pit need to be extinguished by 10 p.m. and it needs to be set back 25 feet away from neighboring properties. It could have been worse- they were initially looking at a 9 p.m. curfew.

It's all about the smoke. It becomes a nuisance to neighbors- them having to close windows on hot days, and such.

They'll be working on marketing in the next couple of years on getting everybody to move away from wood burning fire pits, completely.
