The firefighter who was seriously injured during operations on the Pingree Hill Prescribed Burn, east of Rustic, sustained a non-fire related injury involving a chainsaw.

He was flown by helicopter to the North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley on Monday. He is currently in stable condition. He has been a firefighter for 9 years and this is his first year on the Canyon Lakes Ranger District of the Roosevelt National Forest.

The U.S. Forest Service says they are doing everything they can to take care of him and his family during this difficult time. The Wildland Firefighting Foundation is also offering support.

A firefighter was injured Monday on the Pingree Hill Prescribed Burn, located south of Red Feather Lakes, east of Rustic. The firefighter was taken by ambulance to North Colorado Medical Center, where his condition was not available. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the firefighter who was injured.

According to Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forests & Pawnee National Grassland, Yesterday firefighters held and monitored the Pingree Hill Prescribed Burn. Today they are fully staffed, with 26 firefighters continuing to monitor and hold the burn.  Smoke may still be visible from Red Feather Lakes, the Poudre Canyon and along the northern Front Range. Burning could resume later in the week, depending on conditions.
