The man who not only helped bring an NHL team to Denver but built the teams that won two Stanley Cups in the Mile High City, Pierre Lacroix has passed away. According to the Denver Post Lacroix died on Sunday due to complications from COVID at the age of 72.

Lacroix was instrumental in bringing the Avalanche to Colorado way back when he was the GM for the franchise back in Quebec when they were known as the Nordiques.

He was loved and appreciated not only by his organization but the entire NHL and hockey world.

Not only was Lacroix a major factor in bringing an NHL franchise to Colorado but he was extremely influential in how he has taken the sport of hockey to new levels of popularity in the state of Colorado as well.

For me, growing up an hour away from Pittsburgh, I was always a Penguins fan but my wife LOVES the Avs so I've seen many games and used to drive up to Denver when we lived in Texas to watch the team play.

I always loved to watch them play...from their uniforms, the cool foot logo and the players that he put on the ice, they were fun to watch and the energy at (the former Pepsi Center now Ball Arena) was second to none and still to this day, the Avalanche are one of the premier and elite franchises in the NHL.

RIP Pierre Lacroix
