With COVID-19 hurting the lives of many in Colorado, be it physically or economically, everyone wants someone to blame. Fort Collins Police Services released a statement Tuesday, April 28 urging citizens to please use caution and rationality before jumping to conclusions or spreading rumors.

In the statement, Chief Swoboda said that Asian community members in Northern Colorado "have been subjected to discrimination by people who think COVID-19 is somehow linked to their ethnicity." He added, "This is not true and it’s not okay."

Comments surged, even one noting that the post in general is an example of fear-mongering. As a response, the Chief said his intention is to provoke thoughtful discussion and awareness.
