A new scam is being reported around Fort Collins and the police want you to know about it.

As stimulus checks begin showing up in bank accounts, thieves and scam artists have begun working overtime. Over the weekend, the Fort Collins Police tweeted out a warning about a scary scam they've had reported by multiple people. They say that someone is contacting residents claiming to be with a drug cartel, demanding money and threatening violence.

The Police said in the tweet that the scammers are making contact by phone and text message. They're also warning residents, "don't pay any money. This is a scam."
