It's time to turn off your sprinklers, Fort Collins.

Mandatory outdoor water restrictions in Fort Collins start Thursday, October 1, according to the City of Fort Collins' website. The restrictions will apply for all Fort Collins Utilities water customers.

Fort Collins city manager, Darin Atteberry, signed a declaration and order for water restrictions on outdoor water uses in an effort to avoid a water supply shortage due to ongoing drought conditions, the Cameron Peak fire, and an infrastructure project going on at Horsetooth Reservoir.

Outdoor water restrictions under this mandate include:

  • No lawn watering
  • No residential vehicle washing at home
  • No fleet vehicle washing unless approved by the city manager
  • No dealership vehicle washing unless the vehicle is being washed upon sale
  • No spraying impervious surfaces except for essential power washing
  • No dust control measures using water unless there is no other non-water alternative
  • No water features
  • No splash parks
  • No outdoor misting devices
  • No filling of empty pools

All restrictions will be enforced by Fort Collins Utilities employees and city code compliance officials.

Residents could be faced with fines ranging from $50-$1000 for violating the restrictions. Businesses could be faced with fines ranging from $250-$1000 for violating the restrictions.

The city manager is expected to lift the water restrictions by November 30, as long as they are no longer needed.
