Are you a fan of public policy? If you are, great! But if you felt your eyes glaze over at ‘Are,’ that’s OK, too. Either way, I’m going to skip the civic duty lecture and just let you know that the Northern Colorado Legislative Alliance (NCLA) is holding a Regional Issues Summit in Loveland on Tuesday, November 19, and we’re all invited.

Now, what’s a Regional Issues Summit and why should we care? Well, it’s like we’ve all been invited to Colorado’s version of “Hamilton,” specifically “Cabinet Battle #1.” Kind of. Yes, of course there’ll be just as many rap battles and smackdowns as there are in the musical, why do you ask?

The summit will be a time for business heads, community leaders, economic experts and policy makers  to convene and discuss upcoming policies and regulations that’ll impact the state’s economy. Basically, we’ll get to be the audience for dozens of Hamiltons and Jeffersons as they debate public policy and examine their implications with leading experts in the field. It’s just what it says on the tin: This is our region and we’re going to look at its issues, economically speaking.

According to the Coloradoan, among the topics that are set to be discussed are health care and the public option (which would allow more people access to public insurance such as Medicare or Medicaid, even if they’re not older, disabled or poor), climate, energy and air quality, and transportation for people and goods.

Over 200 business and community leaders are expected to attend, not to mention that Governor Jared Polis will also be speaking at the event. Overall, the panels and discussions will run from 7 a.m. to noon at the Embassy Suites Conference Center in Loveland. It costs $40 for members of the Loveland, Fort Collins and Greeley chambers of commerce to register, $50 for non-members, and $500 if you want to get yourself a table and kidnap some friends into going with you. You can register to go to the summit here.

So, there you have it. This is your chance to see Hamilto- I mean Gov. Polis and be involved in the political decisions that are going to affect us all in coming months. Maybe they’ll even let you hold rap battles during breaks, just to spice things up.
