Something that I already knew...even before I moved here about a year and a half ago was that Colorado is awesome. From my days of living in Texas when I would come up here to visit friends and family, I always knew that I wanted to call it home someday and thankfully I have that opportunity now.

Whenever people ask me what's it's like living here I simply tell them I always feel like I'm on a vacation because there's always a new adventure that awaits somewhere in this great state.

That's what I want to highlight in this particular article and I was able to get some help from Uncover Colorado about a few of the things that not only make this place fun, but unique and gives us a reason to puff out our chests a little more and say..."damn right I live in Colorado".

Seriously though, there is so much that makes our state so unique and awesome...from the various landscapes and ecosystems to the adventures that await whether it's an outdoor adventure or an indoor adventure to the historical old west towns that dot the landscape to the massive amount of sports options at the professional and college level to check out...if you get bored here, it's your own fault.

There's a lot of fun and quirky things in this state too whether it's driving on the highest paved highway in North America (Mt Evans Highway) or a random roadside attraction or a haunted spot, Colorado is filled with cool places to visit and explore.

Let's take a look at just a few of them now... (in no particular order)

1. Four Corners Monument:

Yup, this is pretty much the only place where you can be in FOUR states at one time. Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Arizona.

2. Dearfield Ghost Town

Colorado is home to about 300 ghost towns. I had no idea that Colorado had so many creepy spots and ghost towns to explore like this one in Dearfield. About 25-30 miles East of Greeley on HWY 34.

3. The Deepest Hot Springs In The World

This thing is over 1000 feet deep!!! .

4. There are 58 mountain peaks that reach over 14,000 feet!

I scaled my first one (Quandary) and I've already got a second and third one planned but I've also got my eye on snowshoeing a couple of these majestic peaks as well this winter.

5. Let's stick with being high...the highest paved road is in Colorado

Let's take a ride with these folks...this is just awesome!

6.Colorado Was The Only State To Ever Turn Down The Olympics

You may or may not know that Denver was set to host the 1976 Winter Olympics (which eventually was given to Montreal) but was voted against by the residents fearing the cost and the traffic problems it could cause and the possible population boom. Ooops, the population boom ended up coming anyway a decade or so later.

7. The Cheeseburger

Sure, you can get a cheeseburger anywhere but the very first cheeseburger was trademarked in Denver in 1935 by Louis Ballast from the Humpty Dumpty Drive In in Denver.

8. The best Sunrises And Sunsets are here in Colorado

Sure this one is "technically" debatable but not really...we're pretty sure there's no better place to catch one than right here in the Cenennial State! Here are a couple of my faves that I captured recently.

9. You Can Hike The Tallest Sand Dune In America

Down at Great Sand Dunes National Park, you can scale the tallest sand dune in the country which soars up to 750 feet high and do some sand surfing down...sure you'll have a good portion of that sand dune in your pants when you're done but who cares...talk about a sweet experience!

10. "America The Beautiful Was Written About Pikes Peak

The song, “America the Beautiful,” was written by Katherine Lee Bates, who was extremely inspired when she saw the majestic mountain for the very first time.

11. The Best Damn College In The Country Is Here

Yeah that's right...this fact may be another one of those debatable facts but I'm debating in defense of Colorado State University. Not only is the campus gorgeous, CSU is known as one of the leading research universities in the world...throw in some cool local spots that dot the area around the campus, the history and our sports programs that bring excitement and winning (even though our football team had a rough season) CSU is the best in Colorado...in my humble opinion. We're for sure better than that school in Boulder.  GO RAMS!

12. The Longest Continuous Commercial Street In America Is In Colorado

Running through the central part of Denver, it is the longest continuous commercial street in the U.S. The street stretches 26.5 miles long and is home to the famous Colfax Marathon. It’s separated into East and West Colfax at downtown Denver, and runs right by the state capitol building.
