A Fort Collins CSU counselor has in fact been cited by the U.S. Forest Service for starting the Hewlett Gulch Fire. He will be cited the standard $325 fine PLUS the Forest Service will pursue Weber for restitution.  So, let's keep this in mind before crucifying him as a monster and devil! He will pay for his actions for a long time but the way people are treating him is just appalling in my humble opinion.

Here me out friends...what this man has done was wrong but we all face accidents in our lives and I'm sure if this were you or any of your family you would see this as an accident too.

We all know this man did NOT go out and intentionally try to burn the forest down.  On the contrary, he was a man of nature and I'm sure would do anything to protect it so please don't be so ready to stone him to death.

Here's one of the many comments that stood out on FB today:

So "accidentally" gets you a small fine, next we will hear about I "accidentally" killed someone...

News Flash:  People are killed accidently all the time and if it truly an 'accident' people get away with a lot less than a $325 fine.

Most would had never even reported the fire yet he did and came forward and admitted it otherwise chances are highly likely no one would have ever known. That takes some serious guts and courage!  He knew exactly what he would face and yet he came forward.   Rest assured he wasn't home giggling like a little school girl at what he had done.

Are the fines to little?  I'm sure when this is all said and done he will be broke, bankrupt and might even lose his job.  So I think 'when the smoke clears' he will pay the ultimate price.  Yes I am pissed it's ONLY a $325 fine but it's not this man's fault.  Blame the lawmakers who made it a $325 fine!

As Brian Gary once said recently, don't be so quick to judge others!  This was an accident plain and simple and yes it's a crying shame but don't throw someone on the cross until you've walked in their shoes.  This isn't murder...it was an accident!

Yes, it is a travesty that almost 8000 acres have been consumed by fire but this man is not an arsonist and in the end he will pay for it, greatly, so let's not throw him off a cliff.  I'm sure this will not be one of his proudest moments in life by any stretch!
