There is a new service that notifies you when a train is going through town. Train Alert Northern Colorado lets you know when a northbound train is headed through Fort Collins or a southbound train is coming through Loveland.

It's really pretty simple technology. A camera focused on railroad tracks in South Fort Collins provides data which is analyzed to detect trains. Alerts are sent via Twitter and can also be viewed online.

So far there is only one camera, so southbound trains in Fort Collins or northbound trains in Loveland are not included in the alerts.
