Just over a year after Joe Flacco became the Broncos starting quarterback, the team has released him due to a failed physical designation.

The Broncos had hoped the Super Bowl MVP would be able to take them back to the playoffs. Unfortunately, during his inaugural season he only threw six touchdowns in eight games, pulled off five interceptions and was sacked a bone-crushing 26 times.

He led the team to an underwhelming 2-6 record before his season-ending injury.

Denver will lose $13.6 million in money that was already paid to Flacco, according to Spotrac.com. The QB’s $20.25 million salary will no longer be accounted for, though, saving the Broncos $10.05 million in cap space.

That brings the team’s total salary cap space available to $33,456,437, according to Spotrac.
