Currently, I commute over 60 miles each way to work every day from Littleton to Windsor. Yeah, yeah, yeah I know, it’s far and it takes a toll on your car.  That will be changing soon enough however! One thing that I have noticed on these daily long drives is how much the roads suck here in Colorado. Not the potholes or cracks, but the lack of visibility. Every time there is a slight bit of moisture on the roadways, it’s nearly impossible to see. So I decided to do something about it and change out my headlights from halogen to HID xenons. I opted to buy a set based on the raving reviews of XenonDepot.com’s HID light kit. I purchased the Volt kit the day before Thanksgiving and received it yesterday.

Here is what my headlight output looked like with halogens prior to the new HID’s installed.

Last night, we got home around 10:45 and couldn't wait to crack open the new package!

Inside the box is a pair of 4300k pure white Phillips bulbs and a pair of slim digital ballasts. I opted for the 4300k lights due to the fact that they emit the most light and felt it would be crucial to driving to get the best visibility possible.

The HID headlights were a breeze to install. Total time took less than 10 minutes per side, including removing the old bulb, installation of the new HID bulb, placement of ballast and tucking the wires... I couldn't resist the urge to to take a photo after I installed the first bulb on the drivers side. You'll notice a significant increase in the light output. The old halogens seem as if they are dim and dingy with a yellow tint compared to the new headlight.

After I successfully installed the drivers side bulb, it was time to take the new HIDs out for a test drive!

Yep! I can see clearly now that I have some light output! When I got home, the new headlights lit up the garage unlike before!

I could have went to a higher kelvin temperature and had the blue tint to the lights, but the pure white has been a great upgrade to the car and safety. After short use of them, I am totally happy with my purchase and I feel that I will be safer when driving at night.
