Many Coloradans were heartbroken to hear some unfortunate news this week – that long-time sportscaster and Denver media mogul, Les Shapiro, has entered hospice care in Arizona due to his ongoing battle with cancer.

Shapiro was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in 2018, although the legendary TV/radio host admitted he's never smoked a day in his life.

On January 25, Shapiro's family announced that he had begun hospice services on his personal Facebook page, further stating that the 65-year-old likely doesn't have much time left.

Comments poured in from former colleagues, friends, family, and fans who shared their best and favorite memories with Shapiro.

The media personality was originally born in Illinois but moved to Colorado to pursue his media career in the 1980s.

Throughout his seasoned sportscasting and reporting career, Shapiro held positions at CBS4, ESPN Radio, FOX 31, and Mile High Sports. He was known for covering the Broncos during much of this time. Shapiro also emceed countless non-profit events throughout his years in Colorado.

His circle of friends included many notable Colorado figures, including John Elway, Mike Shanahan, and Vic Lombardi. He discussed his relationship with Shanahan two years ago in the video below.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Les and his entire family as they navigate through this difficult time.
