The longest standing, non-profit donkey rescue in the nation is located in Colorado, and fortunately for animal lovers, Longhopes Shelter welcomes guests to stop by and visit with the loveable longears.

Through Airbnb Experiences, people have the chance to sign up for two-hour tours of Longhopes Donkey Shelter. The organization has been around for over 20 years, and has rescued more than 1,200 donkeys, and rehomed approximately 1,100 of them.

During the excursion, guests get to walk through the barns and paddocks at the sanctuary in Bennett. Those on the tour also get to check out the obstacle course and training area, as well as the hospital, recovery room, and the paddock for special needs donkeys. Along the way, the host will share information about the animals' health, behavior, and medical needs.

Individuals who are visiting the donkey safe haven are able to meet the 60 residents and learn each of their stories, including the donkeys who have just entered the rehabilitation program . There's plenty of photo opportunities, and guests even get the chance to feed treats to the senior donkeys, plus help brush and train them.

The donkey journey starts at $50 per person and can be booked via Airbnb.
