Looking for a career?

The Colorado Department of Transportation is going to be holding career fairs across Colorado over the next five weeks. They're actively looking to fill part-time and full-time positions for highway maintenance workers.

The career fairs will begin Saturday, Sept. 11, and goes through Saturday, Oct. 2.

Any seasonal hires can expect the temporary positions to generally last up to nine months. However, with experience seasonal workers can gain in the temporary positions, they will be eligible to apply for full-time maintenance positions as well.

All permanent positions include full benefits and there are promotional opportunities that come with the jobs. Some positions at certain locations will also offer a housing stipend.

There are several different positions available, but a few are:

  • Commercial Driver's License Highway Maintenance Employee and Temporary Winter Employee
  • Temporary Highway Maintenance Trainees
  • Temporary/permanent Equipment Mechanics

Some of these positions have experience or age requirements, while others simply prefer prior experience.

In the career fairs, people interested in applying will possibly be interviewed and can receive a conditional employment offer, according to CDOT Human Resources Director Kristi Graham-Gitkind.

The positions have the ability to provide job satisfaction and stability to anyone who is in a position of necessity or interest.

The career fairs will be held either at an individual CDOT office or maintenance facility. Colorado residency is not required for permanent or temporary positions at the time of application, and positions are available in other towns not provided in the specific list from CDOT.
