Construction crews are building Downtown stations for the MAX Bus Rapid Transit system, which will require closures of Mason Street over the next few months. A full closure of northbound Mason Street, just north of Mountain Avenue, will start on Monday, Jan. 14th.  Station construction typically lasts approximately three months.

Vehicles will be detoured onto Mountain, heading west to Howes Street or east to College Avenue. Vehicles can use Laporte Avenue to enter the Civic Center Parking Structure, and can exit the structure onto Mason Street or Laporte Avenue. The sidewalk in this area will be closed during construction as well; pedestrians should use the sidewalks on the west side of Mason Street and detour through the alley as posted.

During construction, a chain-link fence will enclose the area where crews will excavate, lay the foundation, and then add in the structural elements of the new station building. Over several months, contractors will return to the station site to complete the finish work on the station including masonry, installation of art panels and wind screens, electronic components, and landscaping.

This closure will allow crews to work quickly and minimize impacts over a short period of time. For more information, visit fcgov.com/maxconstruction or call the MAX construction hotline, 970-416-2617.
