If you've always wanted to be an astronaut, this could be your moment to shine.

NASA opened its astronaut application website Monday and is accepting applications now through February 18.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens with a bachelor's degree in science, math, or engineering. If chosen, they will help "blaze the trail" to Mars.

"Some people would be surprised to learn they might have what it takes," said director of flight operations at Johnson Space Center, Brian Kelly. "We want and need a diverse mix of individuals to ensure we have the best astronaut corps possible."

Becoming an astronaut for NASA is like joining a very elite club. Only 300-something people have become NASA astronauts since the original Mercury 7 were chosen in 1959. NASA's last astronaut program in 2013 received over 6,000 applications, but only 8 applicants were chosen.
