It's no secret that Loveland is unique, especially when it comes to supporting public art. In fact, the City's Art in Public Places (APP) program currently hosts over 500 distinct works of art, many of which are thanks to donations.

Loveland also upholds an ordinance that places 1% of City capital projects valued at $50,000 or more in the APP program's fund.

"The 1% is really a significant contribution and has been a really key asset to the City as far as building the public art program," said Suzanne Janssen, Public Art Manager for the City of Loveland, in our "Tuned In to NoCo" interview. "Loveland is by far the most dedicated city I have seen to supporting art in a really real way. That certainly keeps an art presence at the forefront [for] both our residents and visitors alike."

One of the pieces in the APP's collection is Every Word We Utter, a sculpture by artist Jane DeDecker that serves as an ode to the women's suffrage movement.

The APP program recently dedicated the sculpture at the Loveland Civic Center. DeDecker hopes that a larger version of the piece will be a national monument in Washington, D.C. — Sen. Michael Bennet and Rep. Joe Neguse are working to make her vision a reality.

"There's a lack of representation of women in sculpture nationally and [Every Word We Utter] is an opportunity to not only kind of fill that gap, but also to really just tell the story of women's history," said DeDecker. "I am completely amazed by the amount of support that we get from...everyone who has embraced the art in our city."

Along with Every Word We Utter, DeDecker has various other pieces in Loveland's collection, which visitors can explore through the Loveland Sculpture Quest. Running until November 12, the quest allows participants to explore public art throughout the City's sculpture parks for the chance to win prizes.
